Car Crashes into Parked Big Rig on 5 Fwy Killing near Bakersfield
Bakersfield, CA (February 12, 2024) – A parked big rig was involved in a wreck early Monday morning when a car slammed into it on the 5 Freeway claiming the life of a 25-year-old San Francisco resident.
Man Killed in Two-Vehicle Accident on 5 Freeway near Lerdo Highway
The incident occurred shortly after 3:30 a.m. north of the Lerdo Highway off-ramp. California Highway Patrol reports indicate that the man was driving south on the freeway when his vehicle collided with a parked big rig on the right shoulder.
The collision resulted in fatal injuries for the driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers in the vehicle, aged 24 and 26, were also involved in the crash. They were transported to Kern Medical, with the 24-year-old sustaining major injuries and the 26-year-old minor injuries.
Notably, the 24-year-old passenger was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of them hitting the parked big rig.
Authorities are investigating the incident, with alcohol appearing to be a contributing factor.
