Man Struck and Killed in Otay Mesa; Crash may have been Intentional
OTAY MESA, CA (December 3, 2021) – Octavio Mendoza was identified as the man who was struck and killed in Otay Mesa on Thanksgiving Day. Authorities said they believe the hit-and-run crash may have been intentional.
The November 25 crash occurred close to the Silverwing Recreation Center on Arey Drive in the 3700 block. Mendoza had been riding a bicycle when a vehicle–described as possibly an SUV, light in color–struck and killed him.
The time was roughly a little before 11:30 a.m., San Diego Police said.
The suspect driver–who has not been described–fled the crash site.
Responders transported Mendoza to the hospital. He was pronounced deceased. Mendoza was 40 years old.
Reports say that according to Jud Campbell, who is a lieutenant, detectives working on the incident believe the suspect crashed into Mendoza on purpose. According to Campbell, authorities are investigating the crash as a homicide.
