Crash at Highway 33 and West Panoche Rd. Kills One, Injures Five In Mendota, CA

MENDOTA, CA (July 7, 2022) – Early in the morning on Tuesday near Mendota, two vehicles collided, killing one person and injuring five others. The July 5 crash occurred where Highway 33 and West Panoche Road are located.

The time was roughly 4:45 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.

Reports say a vehicle–described as a Nissan Sentra–was going west on West Panoche Road, and after entering the intersection at Highway 33, it collided with a Toyota Sienna.

Responders took a woman who had been the passenger in the right front seat of the Nissan by airlift to Community Regional Hospital located in Fresno. She died from her injuries.

She was identified only as 32 years old. Her name and city of residence have not been reported.

Responders transported the driver of the Nissan by airlift to Madera Community Regional Hospital. He suffered injuries that were described as major.

He was identified as Alberto Rojas, a resident of Fresno, 32 years old.

Responders transported another passenger who had been in the Nissan to the hospital. She suffered injuries that were described as major.

Her identity has not been reported.

The person who had been driving the Toyota suffered injuries that were described as minor, according to reports.

He was identified as Santos Valentin, a resident of Mendota, 55 years old.

Responders also transported two passengers from the Toyota to the hospital. They suffered injuries that were described as moderate.

The two patients were identified only as residents of Mendota, a man, 62 years old, and a man, 59 years old. Their names have not been reported.

Two other people–identified only as a man 26 years old who had been a passenger in the Nissan, and a man 43 years old who had been a passenger in the Toyota–suffered injuries that were described as minor.

Neither person was taken to the hospital, and their names have not been reported.

Investigators are continuing their work on the crash.
