McFarland, CA (September 12, 2023) – Tragedy struck on Sunday at approximately 5:17 a.m. when a fatal two-car accident unfolded on Highway 99 near Sherwood Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.
23 Year Old, Andrea Marie Fanning, Came To A Stop With No Lights On
The incident involving 23-year-old Andrea Marie Fanning from Bakersfield, who inexplicably came to a stop in the northbound lane while driving her 2014 Chevrolet. At this point, her vehicle’s headlights were not illuminated.
Shortly thereafter, a 43-year-old woman operating a 2019 GMC in the same northbound lane failed to notice the stationary Chevrolet ahead. Traveling at an approximate speed of 70 mph, the GMC collided with the rear of the Chevrolet, causing both vehicles to veer off the roadway.
McFarland Investigators Are Trying To Determine Why The Chevy Came To An Abrupt Stop
Emergency response teams quickly arrived at the scene, but tragically, they pronounced Andrea Marie Fanning, the driver of the Chevrolet, deceased upon their arrival. It was determined that she was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the impact.
Authorities are currently working to ascertain the reason behind Ms. Fanning’s decision to halt on the roadway and whether impairment played a role in the incident. An ongoing investigation is expected to provide additional details as it progresses.
