Man is Struck and Killed While Changing Tire on State Route 54 in Chula Vista, CA
CHULA VISTA, CA (April 8, 2022) – Late in the afternoon on Thursday in Chula Vista, a man who was changing a tire on the side of State Route 54 was struck and killed. The April 7 crash occurred near Highland Avenue and to the east of it.
The time was roughly 5:50 p.m., California Highway Patrol said.
A disabled vehicle–described as a Toyota Scion–was parked beside the roadway, and a man was changing a tire. A vehicle–described as a Mazda–struck the man while he was at work.
Responders transported the man to a hospital. He died in the hospital. The victim’s identity, including his name, age, and city of residence, has not been reported.
The person who was driving the Mazda remained at the crash site and cooperated with the investigation. The identity of the person has not been reported.
Investigators are continuing their work on the crash.
