Motorcyclist Fleeing Police Strikes and Kills Pedestrian in Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES, CA (May 31, 2019) – A motorcyclist fleeing police pursuit hit and killed and pedestrian early Friday morning in Los Angeles. The May 31 incident occurred in downtown.
The incident began before midnight.
According to Sgt. Stage, who is with the California Highway Patrol, officers attempted to pull over a motorcycle that ran through a red light at roughly 11:40 p.m. Thursday night. Reports say the rider would not stop and police pursued the motorcycle. The pursuit went on past midnight, and went through several freeways including the 101, 605, and 5.
Reports say that after approximately 50 minutes had elapsed, the rider got off the 101 Freeway at the exit for Alameda Street. On Arcadia Street, the rider hit a pedestrian in an area between Spring Street and Main Street.
Respondents pronounced the pedestrian deceased at the site of the incident. The identity of the victim, including the person’s name, age, gender, and city of residence, has not been reported.
Respondents transported the rider to a hospital in the area. The injuries the rider suffered have not been reported, and the identity of the person, includng name, age, gender, and city of residence, has also not been reported. The rider’s current condition is not known.
According to Stage, the rider was arrested. Investigators are continuing to examine the details of the incident.
