Man Struck and Killed by Truck in Boyle Heights Area of Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES, CA (June 3, 2019) – Jaime Ramirez was struck and killed by a truck Friday night as he rode a bicycle in the Boyle Heights area of Los Angeles. The May 31 incident occurred in the vicinity of 8th Street and Lorena Street.
The time was roughly 9:30 p.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Reports say Ramirez had been riding a bicycle on Lorena Street, traveling in between lanes of traffic. According to police, as Ramirez came up on 8th Street, he lost control of the bike, and fell down on the road. A truck—described as a 40-foot box trailer—which had been in the number 2 lane, ran over Ramirez.
Respondents arrived and pronounced Ramirez deceased at the accident site. Ramirez was 24 years old and a resident of Maywood.
The person who had been driving the truck did not remain at the scene of the accident. Reports say a person who witnessed the incident pursued the truck and took a photo of the license plate on that vehicle. Surveillance video captured by a camera in the area recorded the accident.
A description of the truck from police says it is all white in color, has a sleeper cab, and bears a California license plate with the number 4MY4587. No company logo was visible. According to officials, the registered owner of the truck had not yet been reached.
