Driver Injured when Patrol Vehicle Strikes during Pursuit of Other Vehicle in Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES, CA (May 6, 2021) – Early in the morning on Thursday, a patrol vehicle that was engaged in a pursuit struck the vehicle of an innocent person, injuring the driver. The May 6 incident occurred in the area of South Los Angeles, where Jefferson Boulevard and South Western Avenue intersect.
The time was roughly a little before 3:00 a.m., authorities said.
Los Angeles police had been engaged in pursuing a suspect’s vehicle, reports say. A supervisor with the Los Angeles Police Department was reported to have been attempting to reach the pursuit scene.
The patrol vehicle–described as an SUV–collided with a civilian’s vehicle. The driver of the civilian vehicle had not been involved in the pursuit. No details have been reported about the crash.
Responders transported the injured driver to the hospital. The types of injuries the person suffered, and current condition, are not known. The person has not been identified in reports.
Responders also transported the officer to the hospital. Her identity has not been reported.
Officers apprehended several people at the conclusion of the pursuit, reports say, in the area of Arlington Heights not far from the 10 Freeway.
Investigators are working to understand how the crash happened. They are in the process of collecting information.
