Chain-reaction Crashes on State Route 67 in Lakeside Kill One, Seriously Injure Another
LAKESIDE, CA (March 25, 2020) – Early in the morning on Monday in Lakeside, chain-reaction collisions killed one person and seriously injured another on State Route 67. The March 23 incident occurred near the San Vicente Reservoir and to the north of it.
The time was roughly a little before 7:00 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
Reports say a vehicle—described as a Toyota Yaris—had been heading north on SR-67 and in an area close to the Foster Truck Trail, the vehicle went out of the driver’s control. The Toyota slid sideways into the lane of oncoming traffic.
A vehicle—described as a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck—and the Toyota collided, with the Toyota struck broadside.
The person who had been driving the Toyota suffered fatal injuries, according to Travis Garrow. Garrow is a public-affairs officer with the California Highway Patrol.
The Toyota’s driver was identified only as a woman who was a resident of Alpine, 37 years old. Her name has not been reported.
The pickup truck, and the trailer it was pulling, went onto the opposite side of the roadway after the initial collision, and collided head-on with a Chevrolet station wagon.
Another vehicle—described as a Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck—rear-ended the station wagon. A Toyota Prius struck the Chevrolet Silverado on its right side.
Responders transported the person who had been driving the station wagon to UCSD Medical Center located in San Diego. The person suffered injuries that were described as major. The current condition of the person is not known.
Two other drivers of vehicles involved in the incident, and a passenger, suffered injuries that were described as minor.
None of the people involved in the incident have been identified. Their current conditions are not known.
Investigators are working on understanding the circumstances of the crash.
