Officer Hospitalized, Driver Charged in Police Chase Accident on 10 Freeway
Covina, CA (May 23, 2024) – Officer Jesse Gutierrez remains in critical condition following a high-speed chase accident on the 10 Freeway near Vincent Avenue on May 6.
According to Covina Police, Officer JesseGutierrez was responding to a call for service when he began pursuing a suspect who refused to pull over. The chase ended when the officer’s patrol vehicle crashed into a cement sign across from Rangel’s Cafe.

Firefighters quickly arrived at the scene and used the Jaws of Life to extricate Officer Jesse Gutierrez and his K-9 partner, Paco, from the wrecked vehicle. The officer sustained a severe head injury and remains sedated in the ICU.
Officer Jesse Gutierrez, a four-year veteran of the department, is a husband and father of two boys. A fundraiser has been set up to support his family during this difficult time.
