One Dead, Three Injured in Highway 65 Collision Near Minneola Avenue
BAKERSFIELD, CA (July 6, 2025) – A fatal crash involving a minivan and a heavy-duty pickup truck shut down both directions of Highway 65 near Minneola Avenue on Sunday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision occurred around 7:22 p.m. on July 6, 2025. Authorities say a white 2013 Toyota Sienna, driven by a 55-year-old man and carrying three passengers, was traveling southbound on Highway 65 when the driver attempted to pass a 2005 Ford F-350 pickup towing a two-axle trailer.
An Ill-advised Lane Change On Highway 65 Led To The Mini-Van Losing Control
During the passing maneuver, the minivan veered into the northbound lane but quickly swerved back upon spotting an oncoming vehicle. In the process, it collided with the left front end of the Ford truck. The impact caused the Toyota to overturn, scattering debris — including portable toilets — across the roadway.
A Passenger of The Mini Van Was Ejected and Killed
One passenger in the minivan was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene, CHP officials said. The driver and two remaining passengers sustained moderate to major injuries and were transported to Kern Medical Center for treatment.
The 23-year-old driver of the Ford pickup and its occupants were not injured.
The incident remains under investigation, and officials have not yet released the name of the deceased. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the California Highway Patrol.
