Pedestrian Killed by Hit-and-run Driver on Sanderson Ave. in Hemet
HEMET, CA (April 19, 2021) – Early in the morning on Sunday in Hemet, a pedestrian was killed by a hit-and-run driver. The April 18 incident occurred on Sanderson Avenue close to Fruitvale Avenue.
The time was roughly 3:17 a.m., Hemet Police said.
According to officers, reports were received about a pedestrian–described as female–jumping into moving traffic on Kirby Street roughly a half hour before the deadly crash occurred.
Kirby Street is within one block of where the fatal collision happened. The woman who was reported in the earlier incident, and the woman who was struck, may have been the same person, according to police.
According to reports, investigators think the victim had been going across the lanes on the southbound side of Sanderson, or standing in them when a vehicle struck her and left the scene. The vehicle was described as a sedan, tan or brown in color.
Responders arrived and worked to help her. They transported her to a hospital in the area, where she died.
Her identity has not been reported. She may be in her mid to late thirties, and a resident of Hemet, according to police.
Investigators are examining video recorded from a surveillance camera for details about the crash. They are searching for the vehicle, and the suspect driver.
