Five Killed in Head-on Crash near Table Mountain Casino in Fresno County
FRESNO COUNTY, CA (February 7, 2022) – Early in the morning on Saturday in Fresno County, a head-on crash killed five people. The February 5 crash occurred in the eastern area of the county, close to Table Mountain Casino and roughly 25 miles from downtown Fresno.
The time was roughly 4:30 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
According to reports, investigators think a vehicle–described as a Hyundai Accent–went over the double-yellow lines and into the lane of oncoming traffic. The Hyundai crashed head on with a vehicle–described as a Honda Accord.
According to Mike Salas, who is a spokesperson with the California Highway Patrol, the amount of damage to the vehicles was astronomical.
All of the occupants of the Hyundai–reported as four men–died at the crash site. They are thought to have been residents of Fresno County.
Their names and ages have not been reported. According to Salas, investigators do not believe the people had been wearing seatbelts when the crash occurred.
One person who had been traveling as a passenger in the Honda was also killed in the crash. The identity of the person has not been reported.
Responders worked to extricate another passenger and the driver from the wreckage of the Honda. Responders transported the two patients to the hospital.
They suffered injuries that were described as major. Their identities have also not been reported.
The person who was driving the Hyundai is suspected of driving under the influence, reports say. Investigators are continuing their work on the crash.
