Pedestrian Killed by Hit-and-run Driver on Brookhurst Street in Garden Grove, CA
GARDEN GROVE, CA (November 7, 2022) – Early in the morning on Sunday in Garden Grove, a suspect hit-and-run driver struck and killed a pedestrian. The November 6 crash occurred on Brookhurst Street in the 12000 block.
The time was roughly a little before 2:00 a.m., according to Garden Grove Police.
The suspect driver–later identified as Alexis Lopez, a resident of Brea, 26 years old–was traveling on Brookhurst Street in a Toyota Tacoma.
Authorities allege an officer who had been in the vicinity of the crash witnessed Lopez driving away from the scene.
The officer pursued Lopez, authorities allege, and he stopped.
He was arrested on suspicion of DUI, reports say.
Responders transported the victim to a hospital in the area. He was pronounced deceased in the hospital.
He was identified only as 53 years old. His name has not been reported.
Reports say the charges Lopez faces include felony hit-and-run, and felony vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
Investigators are continuing to collect details regarding the crash.
