Suspected DUI Driver in Fullerton Hits Nine Pedestrians
FULLERTON, CA (February 11, 2019) – A person suspected of driving under the influence struck and injured nine pedestrians in Fullerton’s downtown area early in the morning on Sunday. The February 10 accident occurred on West Santa Fe Avenue.
The time was roughly 1:50 a.m.
Reports say that a vehicle—described as a Toyota Tacoma, red in color—had crashed through a crowd, striking nine people who were on foot. Some of the victims ended up trapped beneath the vehicle. The truck struck a tree and stopped on the sidewalk.
According to police, the truck was emitting smoke and had significant damage to its front end. Good Samaritans and officers from Fullerton Police worked to lift the truck high enough so that the people who were trapped underneath could be freed.
Police officers gave victims life-saving care until medics arrived, reports say. The people who were injured ranged in age from 19 to 49. They were taken to trauma centers. Injuries suffered by the victims ranged from moderate to critical and life threatening. According to officials ten victims were taken to the hospital. Reports do not say where the tenth person was at the time of the accident. Reports indicate that three other vehicles were damaged in the accident, ranging from minor to moderate.
The identities of the nine pedestrians have not been reported, including their names, gender, and cities of residence. No details have been reported on the identities of any of the other drivers whose vehicles were struck by the suspect vehicle.
According to police, the suspect driver was identified as Christopher Solis, 22 years old and a resident of Anaheim. Police suspect that he was driving under the influence of drugs when the accident happened. He was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI causing great bodily injury.
