Fresno, CA (May 3, 2024) – Tragedy struck on First Street near Santa Ana Avenue when a hit-and-run accident resulted in the death of one pedestrian. The incident, which occurred around 10:00 p.m. on Friday, has left the community in shock.
FPD Attempted To Stop A Vehicle When The Sequence of Events That Led To The Accident
According to the Fresno Police Department, the sequence of events leading to the fatal accident began when officers attempted to stop a vehicle in Northeast Fresno. The driver, for reasons yet unknown, failed to comply with the police signal, initiating a brief pursuit. However, the pursuit was quickly called off by the police. Despite this, the vehicle continued its path westbound on Santa Ana Avenue, ultimately mounting a curb and colliding with two pedestrians.
Emergency services were promptly dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, paramedics found one individual with critical injuries and another tragically pronounced dead.
Suspect Ended Up Stuck Between Pole and A Tree Near Fashion Field Mall
Following the collision, the suspect vehicle reportedly navigated through a parking lot near Fashion Field Mall, where it became wedged between a pole and a tree. However, the occupants, two men, had already fled the scene.
