Pleasanton, CA – A man involved in accident dies on a California Interstate near Oakland Sunday night.
California Highway Patrol responded to a multi-car crash that had occurred southbound on Interstate 680 past Stoneridge Drive at about 8:45 p.m. Two Honda model vehicles were wrapped against different trees on the side of the road and a Ford Mustang, which had been driven by an 18-year old man, laid damaged near the shoulder.
Earlier, a Honda Accord had attempted to escape a Honda Civic by swerving towards the center divider. The Accord managed to escape, for a second, until the Civic crashed into to it. The impact sent the Accord crashing into a tree off the side of the road and the Civic into the Mustang, then a different tree.
Interstate 680 was closed at all lanes heading southbound as fire rescue extricated all men from their vehicles. The driver of the Civic, from Milpitas, was declared dead on the scene, he died from the impact after making an unsafe lane change. The driver of the Accord, from Fremont, was transported to the nearest hospital where he remains in serious condition. The driver of the Mustang was treated for minor injuries and released on the scene.
The accident remains under investigation.
