Katie EvansA 21-year-old Los Angeles County woman was arrested Wednesday in connection with a suspected DUI collision in Santa Clarita that killed a mother of 6 who was returning home from a hospital visit with her premature newborn twin at a local hospital. Alexia Cina, of Canyon Country, was arrested on suspicion of felony vehicular manslaughter and felony DUI causing injury, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The victim, Katie Evans, was reportedly on her way home from visiting her newborn premature twins in the hospital when she was killed on Oct. 6th. The crash was first reported around 11:49 p.m. on Golden Valley Road, just south of Valley Center Drive. Evans was driving north on Golden Valley Road when a southbound vehicle driven by Cina crossed the center divider and collided head-on with Evans’ vehicle. Evans’ was pronounced dead at the scene by first responder. Alcohol containers had been found in the vehicle following the fatal wreck. Cina was not immediately arrested, pending the results of toxicology reports. Cina was arrested on Wednesday after toxicology tests revealed she had a blood alcohol content of .21 at the time of the crash, the paper reports. The legal blood alcohol limit for driving in the state of California is .08.

“Katie couldn’t go a day without visiting her brand-new twin girls in the hospital,” friend Natalie Mortensen wrote in an online fundraising page. “She was a devoted mother, sister and wife and will be immensely missed.”

Obviously, there are consequences when things happen,” Jacob Evans, Katie’s husband told the paper. “But I don’t wish any more ill on anyone. I am trying to focus on my family.” Katie Evans leaves behind 6 children ages 2-years old, 9-years old, 11-years old, 12-years old and the twin newborn girls.
