Driver Fleeing Los Angeles Police in South Bay Area Collides with Vehicles
LOS ANGELES, CA (May 5, 2022) – On Tuesday in the South Bay area of Los Angeles, a driver fleeing authorities crashed into multiple vehicles, striking one head on. The May 3 incident began when authorities pursued suspects in a Mercedes-Benz SUV who were alleged to have robbed a T-Mobile store in Commerce.
The time was roughly noon, according to authorities.
At some point, one of the suspects exited the SUV, reports say, and authorities took the person into custody.
The driver continued to flee from the pursuit, traveling on the 105 Freeway at fast speeds. The suspect driver exited onto Crenshaw Boulevard, traveled through a neighborhood, going in and out of dead-end streets.
Reports say the driver traveled onto a sidewalk in one spot, and later collided with a white car. The suspect driver reversed and left the crash site.
A woman–identified as Connie Rodriguez–had been traveling with her boyfriend in the car that was struck. According to reports, she recounted that the suspect vehicle came at her car at full speed, followed by authorities’ vehicles.
The suspect vehicle struck her car. Reports do not say what kinds of injuries occurred.
Reports also say that the suspect vehicle may have struck another vehicle in Torrance on Van Ness Avenue. In an area close to 173rd Street, the suspect vehicle stopped, and the driver got out.
Authorities took the driver into custody. Neither suspect has been identified.
The driver of the second vehicle that was struck has also not been identified.
Investigators are continuing their work.
