South Gate Man Killed in Crash; Other Driver Suspected of Street Racing
SOUTH GATE, CA (May 19, 2021) – Daniel Guerrero was killed on Sunday night in South Gate when a driver–who is suspected of street racing–collided with Guerrero’s vehicle. The May 16 incident occurred on Firestone Boulevard close to where Alameda Street is located.
The time was roughly 7:45 p.m., Roman Amador said. Amador is a lieutenant with South Gate Police.
Reports say that according to Guerrero’s family, he had left his home to buy diapers for his infant daughter. Not long after, the vehicle Guerrero was driving, and another vehicle, collided.
According to Amador, the driver of each vehicle died at the crash site. Guerrero was later identified as one of the two people who died. Guerrero was a resident of Cudahy, 23 years old.
The other person who died has not been identified in reports.
Reports say that according to people who witnessed the incident, a vehicle involved in the crash may have been street racing before the collision. Two vehicles–described as a BMW and a Dodge Charger–may have been racing each other, according to reports.
The Dodge Charger went out of the driver’s control, it is believed, and collided with the vehicle Guerrero had been driving. The Dodge erupted in flames. The BMW is believed to have left the scene.
Investigators are working to understand the crash, and to determine if there had been a street racing incident in the area. They are continuing their efforts to collect details and information.
