Civilian Crashes Parked Bakersfield Police Cruiser, 2 Injured

A Bakersfield police cruiser was hit by and alleged drunk driver Sunday night. The collision landed the police officer and another in the hospital.
Two authorities, a California Highway Patrol officer and Bakersfield Police Department officer were investigating a prior traffic collision southbound 204 Sunday night when the accident occurred. Their siren lights were on to alert other drivers of the collision. Aware of the accident, drivers cautiously proceeded around the accident zone.
Driving at 65 mph a small SUV crashed into the parked police car immediately after clipping another vehicle.
The collision sent the drunk driver’s passenger and the police officer to the hospital, neither seriously injured.
The passenger, reportedly not wearing a seatbelt, is the driver’s sister. She received moderate injuries. The police officer, an advocate against driving under the influence also received moderate injuries. He left the hospital with stitches on his head.
The driver of the SUV was arrested and is now in jail. He is being charged with a DUI and causing bodily injury.
