Two Big Rigs Crash on I-5 in Castaic, Causing Injuries and Spilling Hazardous Materials
CASTAIC, CA (March 12, 2020) – On Wednesday morning, two big rigs crashed on I-5 in Castaic. The March 11 incident, which occurred on the northbound side of the freeway, caused injuries and a hazardous materials spill.
Reports say two big rigs crashed in an area near Highway 138 and to the south of it. It is not clear from reports how the trucks crashed, and whether they struck each other.
Responders arrived and, according to reports, injuries that were described as minor occurred. It is not known if one or both of the drivers was injured. The identities of the drivers, including names, ages, gender, and cities of residence, have not been reported.
According to reports, methane phosphate had spilled in the crash, and a crew that specializes in hazardous materials arrived to work at cleaning the incident site.
The owners of the trucks involved in the crash have not been identified. It is not known what the other truck had been carrying when the crash occurred.
Investigators are working to understand why the crash happened. They are collecting information and details about the incident.
