Car Smashes into San Diego Coffee Shop, Injuring Three
SAN DIEGO, CA (May 13, 2021) – On Wednesday morning in San Diego, a car smashed into a coffee shop, injuring three people. The May 12 incident occurred at Harry’s Coffee Shop, located at 7545 Girard Avenue.
The time was roughly 10:00 a.m., San Diego Fire said.
According to Erik Windsor, who is a battalion chief with the San Diego Fire Department, a couple described as elderly had been inside the vehicle. Reports say police were told by the driver that he mistakenly used the gas pedal instead of the brake, and the car hit the coffee shop in the rear of the building.
Three people were hurt in the crash. Responders transported two patients to Scripps La Jolla. The types of injuries they suffered, and their current condition, are not known.
They were the two people who had been occupants of the vehicle. They have not been identified in reports.
One patient suffered injuries that were described as minor. The person was identified only as employed at the coffee shop. The person’s name, age, gender, and city of residence have not been reported.
Responders from the fire department also found that gas was leaking, and they evacuated the businesses located on both sides of the coffee shop. Crews from the fire department shut off the gas while at the scene.
An inspector came to the site to determine whether the building was structurally sound, as well as a representative from the health department for the county, as the business affected serves food.
Investigators are continuing to work on the incident.
