Cement-mixer Truck Collides with Bicyclist on Sweetwater Road in Bonita
BONITA, CA (October 25, 2019) – On Thursday morning, a cement-mixer truck and a bicyclist collided on Sweetwater Road in Bonita, seriously injuring the rider. The October 24 incident occurred at Briarwood Road, close to where the Chula Vista Golf Course is located.
The time was a little before 9:30 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
Reports say the bicyclist had been heading westbound on Sweetwater Road. The cement-mixer truck was traveling the same way. The truck made a turn to the right and struck the bicyclist, according to reports.
Responders arrived and transported the injured man to San Diego’s Scripps Mercy Hospital. According to Dan Genevicz, the victim suffered injured that were described as major, but not life threatening. Genevicz is a captain with the Bonita-Sunnyside Fire Protection District.
The victim was identified as 51 years old. His name and city of residence have not been reported.
The person who had been driving the truck has not been identified, including name, age, gender, and city of residence.
Investigators are collecting information and details to understand the circumstances of the incident.
