San Diego Bicyclist Injured in Crash with Pickup on Lincoln Avenue
SAN DIEGO, CA (May 24, 2021) – Late in the afternoon on Sunday in San Diego, a bicyclist was injured in a crash with a vehicle. The May 23 crash occurred in the neighborhood of North Park, on Lincoln Avenue in an area between Arizona Street and Hamilton Street.
The time was roughly a little before 4:45 p.m., according to John Buttle. Buttle is an officer with San Diego Police.
The bicyclist had been traveling on an electric bike, reports say, when a vehicle–described as a GMC Sierra pickup truck–is suspected of pulling out into his path.
The pickup had been heading north in an alley, and had stopped before going across Lincoln Avenue, according to Buttle. The pickup proceeded into Lincoln Avenue, and the bicyclist struck the side of the vehicle.
Responders arrived and transported the bicyclist to the hospital. He suffered injuries that included a broken ankle.
He was identified only as 64 years old. His name and city of residence have not been reported.
The person who had been driving the pickup truck was identified only as 29 years old. His name and city of residence have also not been reported. Reports say the driver was not hurt in the crash.
Investigators are working on collecting information about the incident.
