Suspect Fatally Shot and Deputy Injured in Crash at Downey Ave.
Bellflower, CA (March 19, 2024) – A tumultuous scene unfolded on Tuesday evening at the intersection of Downey Avenue and Artesia Boulevard in Bellflower, resulting in the fatal shooting of a suspect and injuries to a sheriff’s deputy.
The incident transpired shortly before 10:00 p.m. on March 19, when deputies from the Lakewood Sheriff’s Station responded to a report of a restraining order violation at a residence in Lakewood. Upon arrival, deputies initiated a pursuit of the suspect who had violated the restraining order.
Suspect Rammed His Orange Muscle Car Into The Deputy Cruiser
As the suspect’s orange muscle car came to a stop at the intersection of Artesia Boulevard and Downey Avenue, a deputy cruiser pulled up behind. Suddenly, the suspect accelerated in reverse, driving his car on top of the cruiser.
Following this, the suspect exited his vehicle and charged at deputies with a knife. In response, deputies fired shots, resulting in the suspect’s death at the scene.
Knife Recovered After Suspect Shot and Killed In Attack On Deputies
Additionally, one deputy sustained injuries in the altercation and was transported to a local hospital for treatment, although the nature of the injuries has not been disclosed.
A knife was recovered from the scene, according to the LA County Sheriff’s Department, who are currently conducting an investigation into the incident.
