Barstow, CA (September 5, 2023) – A devastating incident unfolded on August 31st around 6:00 p.m., as reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). In a shocking turn of events, a dark Mazda CX5, traveling northbound, found itself in the southbound lanes of the roadway, resulting in a catastrophic collision with a semi-truck in the vicinity of L Street.

The semi-truck driver, in a desperate attempt to evade the oncoming Mazda, swerved but ultimately collided with the highway’s guardrail. The force of the impact was so severe that it triggered a fire within the cab of the semi-truck. Within moments, flames completely engulfed the vehicle, intensifying the already dire situation.
Tragically, first responders at the scene confirmed that two individuals inside the SUV lost their lives in the aftermath of the collision. In respect of their families and loved ones, authorities are refraining from disclosing the identities of the victims at this time, pending the notification of next of kin.

Reports indicate that the semi-truck was transporting a substantial load of approximately 38,000 pounds of chicken, further complicating the incident. In response to the accident and to facilitate clearing operations as well as the ongoing investigation, affected lanes were temporarily closed.
