Metrolink Train Hits and Kills Pedestrian in Baldwin Park
BALDWIN PARK, CA (December 10, 2018) – A person who was walking in Baldwin Park Saturday evening was struck and killed by a Metrolink train. The December 8 accident occurred near Merced Avenue and to the west of it, and not in an area where there was a crossing, Paul Gonzales said. Gonzales is a spokesperson for Metrolink.
The time was roughly a little after 7:30 p.m.
Gonzales said that Train 377—which was scheduled to leave San Bernardino at 6:25 p.m. and arrive at Los Angeles’ Union Station at 8:15 p.m—was the train that hit the pedestrian. The train had been carrying 80 passengers.
The identity of the victim has not yet been reported, neither the name, age, gender, or city of residence. According to reports, Saturday night’s accident was the second death in the area on the same day that involved a person being on railroad tracks and a train. A man in Riverside died when a freight train hit him close to 3rd Street.
The accident in Baldwin Park led officials to close the tracks in that area.
Investigators are looking into the information to determine what caused the accident.
