Hit-and-run Crash Kills Two Children In Apple Valley
APPLE VALLEY, CA (July 6, 2022) – On Saturday in Apple Valley, a hit-and-run driver struck and killed Jacob Martinez and severely injured Christina Bird. A recent news update said that Christina has died from her injuries.
The July 2 crash occurred in the desert in Apple Valley, close to where a family was camping, in the vicinity of Stoddard Wells and the 15 Freeway.
The time was roughly 9:00 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Reports say the two children were on an ATV when another vehicle struck them. The hit-and-run driver did not remain at the crash site or help the victims.
According to people who witnessed the crash, the person driving the vehicle stopped for a few moments after the collision. Then the driver turned the lights of the vehicle off, and drove away at a slow speed.
Responders found Jacob Martinez was killed in the crash. He was 12 years old.
Responders transported Christina Bird to Loma Linda Medical Center for treatment. She suffered life-threatening injuries. As of the most recent news update, Christina died from her injuries.
Christina Bird was 11 years old, according to her mother Felicia Nunez.
Investigators are searching for the hit-and-run driver, who has not been described, and the vehicle–which was described as a Polaris Razor Turbo S or S4, orange in color.
