2 Burglary Suspects in Custody after Chase and Crash in La Mirada

La Mirada Car Crash Details
June 12th ─ two men suspected of burglary are in custody after leading police on a chase ending in a fiery crash. The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. when Fullerton police detectives, conducting plain-clothes surveillance in the parking lot of Hiltscher Park, spotted one of the suspects breaking into another car. According to Fullerton Police, the detectives were staking out the parking lot due to an increase in recent burglaries near the park. The detective described what had happened in detail stating that the suspects were driving in a black Ford Fusion through the parking lot, the car stopped and one of the suspects jumped out and smashed the driver side window of another vehicle. He was seen by the detective taking items from the car. The suspect then jumped back into the Ford Fusion and sped off with a driver going northbound on Euclid Avenue. The plain-clothed detective followed the suspects in an unmarked vehicle until marked vehicles arrived and attempted to pull the suspects over. The 2 men gave chase through the intersection of Gilbert Street and Malvern Avenue at high speeds failing to comply with officers’ demands to pull over. The two men were later found by police at the intersection of Colette Way and La Mirada Boulevard around 6:36 p.m. Their Ford Fusion had lost control during the chase and crashed into a tree. The vehicle then caught fire trapping the two men inside. Police were able to extricate the suspects just seconds before the Ford Fusion was engulfed by flames. Both men were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. They were held in police custody under suspicions of felony auto burglary and felony evading. Since the investigation is ongoing, authorities have not released any names or information on the suspects. Detectives believe the suspects may be connected to a string of previous burglaries in the area.
