Self driving cars appear to be relatively safe other than human error. Four out of 50 self driving cars in California have been involved in auto accidents for this reason. These cars remain the hope of the future.

One and seven tenths million miles have been driven in California by these cars. Thirty million people die per year in the U.S. from auto accidents. Forty-eight vehicles are approved for testing. Two hundred sixty-nine people are allowed to drive them.
Statistics on collisions with the driverless cars are said to be “minor”.
Eleven and eight tenths million driverless cars may be sold by 2035. Their presence on the road is a reality now. California, Florida, Michigan, Nevada, and Washington D.C. presently regulate the research and development testing of automated vehicles.
