Wrong-Way Driver Killed and Three Injured in Head-On Crash on I-10 Near Downtown LA
LOS ANGELES, CA (April 20, 2025) — Andrew Fierro, 24, a wrong-way driver was killed and three others were seriously injured early Sunday morning in a head-on collision on the Santa Monica (10) Freeway near downtown Los Angeles, authorities said.
The crash occurred at approximately 5:25 a.m. on the westbound I-10 just east of San Pedro Street, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Andrew Fierro Was Later Identified By The LA County Coroner
The coroner identified the deceased driver as 28-year-old Andrew Fierro, who was driving a Honda Civic eastbound in the westbound lanes when he collided head-on with a Toyota Sienna carrying three occupants.
Fierro was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Emergency medical personnel transported all three individuals from the Toyota to local hospitals with major injuries, the CHP said.
All 10 Freeway Westbound Lanes Were Affected By The Accident
All westbound lanes were temporarily affected as crews responded to the scene and cleared debris.
The CHP is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deadly crash, including what may have led Fierro to enter the freeway in the wrong direction.
