Female DUI Driver Who Hit-and-Run Police Officer Arrested
FRESNO, CA (October 13, 2024) — An officer was injured in a DUI hit-and-run crash early Sunday morning at the intersection of Olive Avenue and Linden Avenue in Fresno. The incident occurred shortly before 2:00 a.m. on October 13.
According to the Fresno Police Department, officers had initially responded to a report of a physical disturbance outside a nightclub when the crash happened. While investigating the disturbance, officers received a report that a vehicle traveling eastbound on Olive Avenue had struck an officer, knocking him to the ground.
First Responders Quickly Got The Officer To A Nearby Hospital
Paramedics quickly arrived on the scene and transported the injured officer to a nearby hospital for treatment. The extent of the officer’s injuries has not been disclosed.
The suspects vehicle, which briefly slowed before continuing eastbound, was eventually caught in traffic. The driver, 21-year-old Michelle Ashley Ruiz, was arrested at the scene along with her male passenger. Authorities believe Ruiz was driving under the influence at the time of the crash.
Ruiz now faces charges of felony DUI and felony hit-and-run. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
