Service Vehicle Kills L.A. Metro Construction Worker at Worksite in Los Angeles, CA
LOS ANGELES, CA (March 24, 2022) – Late in the afternoon on Wednesday in Los Angeles, a service vehicle at the site of the L.A. Metro Purple Line Extension Project killed a construction worker.
The March 23 incident occurred in the tunnel underground, at 711 S. La Brea Avenue, where the Wilshire/La Brea metro station will eventually be located.
The time was roughly 5:25 p.m., the Los Angeles City Fire Department said.
Reports say that according to Kenneth Miller, who is a Battalion Chief, the construction worker died when a service vehicle trapped him beneath it.
The service vehicle was used to transport workers and equipment from the surface to the worksite below ground and back again, reports say.
No details have been reported on how the worker was trapped beneath the vehicle.
The person was killed in the incident. He was identified only as 32 years old. His name and city of residence have not been reported.
His death was confirmed by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
Investigators with Cal/OSHA (California Division of Occupational Safety and Health) are conducting an investigation into the incident to find out why it happened.
