Wrong-way Crash on State Route 56 Kills One Person in Carmel Valley, CA
CARMEL VALLEY, CA (July 12, 2021) – Early in the morning on Saturday, a head-on crash in Carmel Valley on State Route 56 killed a person. The July 10 incident occurred on the eastbound side of the roadway, near Carmel Country Road and to the east of it in San Diego County.
The time was roughly 1:44 a.m., according to Salvador Castro, who is a public information officer with the California Highway Patrol said.
A vehicle–described as a Honda Civic–had been traveling in the wrong direction, reports say, going west on the eastbound side. The Honda collided with a vehicle, described as a Mazda CX-5.
A person who had been traveling in the Honda as a passenger was killed in the crash. The identity of the victim, including name, age, gender, and city of residence, has not been reported.
The person who had been driving the Honda was arrested by officers on suspicion of DUI. The driver was identified only as a man who is a resident of San Marcos, 22 years old. His name has not been reported.
The Mazda’s driver suffered injuries that were described as minor. The person’s identity has not been reported.
Investigators are continuing their work on the crash.
