Wrong-way Driver Collides with Bakersfield Park Ranger Patrol Vehicle on Alfred Harrell Highway; Three Injured
BAKERSFIELD, CA (June 4, 2021) – Early in the afternoon on Wednesday in Bakersfield, a wrong-way driver collided head on with a park ranger patrol vehicle. Three people were injured in the June 2 crash, which occurred on Alfred Harrell Highway.
The time was roughly 2:15 p.m., according to Richard Pierce. Pierce is a sergeant with the California Highway Patrol.
A vehicle–described as a sedan, black in color–was reported to have been traveling the wrong way on Alfred Harrell Highway. The sedan collided with a county park ranger patrol vehicle head on.
The two rangers suffered injuries that were described as moderate. Their identities have not been reported, and their current condition is not known.
The person who is alleged to have been driving the wrong way suffered injured that were described as major. She was helped by one of the rangers who came to her aid after the crash, reports say.
The identity of the woman, including her name, age, and city of residence, has not been reported.
Responders arrived and transported the three patients to Kern Medical.
Investigators are working to understand why the crash happened, and what factors may have contributed.
