Five-vehicle Crash involving Big Rig on SR-163 Injures Two in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA (May 26, 2021) – Five vehicles, including a big rig, collided in the afternoon on Tuesday in San Diego, injuring two people. The May 25 incident occurred in the Mission Valley area, on State Route 163.
The time was a little after noon, the California Highway Patrol said.
Four vehicles–which have not been described–and a semi truck collided on the off-ramp for Friars Road, off the southbound side of the roadway. According to reports, 50 gallons of fuel spilled from the semi truck.
Responders from San Diego Fire-Rescue arrived on scene to help. Responders took two injured people to a hospital.
The types of injuries the patients suffered, and their current condition, are not known.
None of the people involved in the crash have been identified.
A team came to the site to clean the hazardous materials that had spilled on the roadway.
Investigators are working to understand how the crash happened, and the sequence in which each vehicle was affected. They are in the process of collecting information and details.
