Driver Sought in Fatal Hit-and-run Crash in East Hollywood Area of Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, CA (May 12, 2021) – Authorities are searching for a hit-and-run driver who struck a pedestrian on Saturday, and left the scene where the victim died. The May 8 incident occurred on Melrose Avenue at the intersection with Edgemont Street.

The time was roughly 5:20 a.m., Los Angeles Police said.

Police have released to the public photos that were captured by a surveillance camera. They show the vehicle that is suspected to have been involved in the incident. Authorities described the car as a sedan, black in color, and either two door , or four door.

The person who had been driving the vehicle has not been described.

According to police, the car was eastbound on the Melrose and it smashed into the pedestrian with such force, the victim was sent flying into a car parked in the area.

The driver suspected in the crash did not stop to help the victim or remain at the incident site.

Responders arrived and found the victim died at the crash site. The identity of the person, including name, age, gender, and city of residence, has not been reported.

Investigators are continuing their efforts to locate the car and the suspect driver. If anyone has information about the crash, the person can contact detectives with the Los Angeles Police Department. The number is 213-833-3713.
