Man Identified as Victim Killed by Hit-and-Run Driver in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA (April 26, 2021) – Douglas Bailey was identified by the Medical Examiner’s Office as the victim who was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in San Diego last week. The April 17 incident occurred on Clairemont Drive in the 3000 block.
The time was roughly 9:15 a.m., San Diego Police said.
Reports say Bailey had been walking across Clairemont Drive in the middle of the block, not far from Burgener Boulevard. A vehicle–described only as a car, white in color–struck him.
The driver did not help Bailey or remain in the area, according to Tony Martinez. Martinez is an officer with San Diego Police.
Responders transported the victim–who was later identified as Bailey–to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla. Bailey died roughly five hours later, according to reports.
Investigators are searching for the vehicle involved in the crash, and the suspect driver, who has not been described. They are continuing to collect information and details regarding the incident.
