Driver Smashes into Fire Hydrant; Water Surges Skyward in Bell
BELL, CA (April 23, 2021) – Early in the morning on Thursday in Bell, a driver smashed into a fire hydrant, and water spewed skyward for over an hour until repairs could be made. The April 22 incident, which occurred where Wilcox Avenue and Florence Avenue intersect, injured the driver.
The time was roughly 5:20 a.m., Bell Police said.
A vehicle–which has not been describe–smashed into the fire hydrant, for reasons that are not known. No description of the vehicle’s line of travel prior to the crash has been reported.
Responders arrived and found water spewing skyward from the broken hydrant, with water striking power lines that passed overhead.
Paramedics from Los Angeles County Fire transported the driver to the hospital. The types of injuries she suffered, and her current condition, are not known.
She was identified only as 50 years old. Her name and city of residence have not been reported.
Reports say water spewed for more than an hour until crews could address the situation with the power lines.
Investigators are working to collect information and details regarding the incident.
