Woman Dies in 6-vehicle Chain-reaction Crash on SR-91 in Corona
CORONA, CA (April 19, 2021) – In the evening on Saturday in Corona, Joan McKee died when her vehicle was rear-ended on State Route 91 by a suspected DUI driver. The April 17 incident led to a chain-reaction collision in which as many as six vehicles were involved.
Callers reported to dispatchers that a vehicle–described as a Ford Windstar minivan–had been traveling at a fast speed and moving in an erratic manner on the eastbound side of the roadway. According to Dean Corey, who is a sergeant with the California Highway Patrol, the minivan was going above 90 miles per hour at certain times.
Not long after dispatchers received the reports, the minivan is alleged to have smashed into the rear end of a vehicle–described as a Chrysler Voyager. The force of the collision led to as many as six vehicles being involved in a chain reaction. The vehicles have not been described.
Joan McKee, who had been traveling in the Chrysler, was killed in the crash. She was 71 years old.
A man who was also an occupant of the Chrysler suffered injuries that were described as serious. His current condition is not known. He has not been identified.
According to Corey, the person who is suspected of having caused the collision was arrested on suspicion of DUI. He was identified as Adrian Antonio, a resident of Fontana, 41 years old. Antonio suffered injuries that were described as minor.
Corey said another person involved in the crash suffered injuries that were described as minor. The person has not been identified in reports.
Reports do not say if others were injured. All of the drivers involved in the crash have not been identified. Reports do not say how many passengers may have been involved in the incident.
Investigators are working on the details and information related to the crash.
