Two 15-year-old Girls Injured by Hit-and-run Driver in Irwindale
IRWINDALE, CA (April 15, 2021) – Two girls–both 15 years old–were injured in a hit-and-run crash on Saturday afternoon in Irwindale. Police later arrested the suspect driver in the April 10 incident, which occurred close to where Arrow Highway and Live Oak Avenue intersect.
The time was roughly a little after 3:00 p.m., Irwindale Police said.
A vehicle–described as a Honda Accord–hit a big palm tree growing in the center divider, reports say. When responders arrived, they found two girls–15 years old–had been injured. One of the girls suffered injuries that were described as critical.
According to police, one of the teenagers said she had been driving the vehicle, but in the hospital, she later said that her stepfather had been driving when the crash happened.
The man had run from the crash site before responders arrived. He was identified as Alexander Ramos, 41 years old. Ramos is a convicted felon and was on parole at the time of the crash.
Reports say that Ramos, with help from his parole officer, turned himself in to authorities. Police arrested him on suspicion of felony child endangerment, felony hit and run causing injury or death, and violation of parole conditions.
The condition of one of the girls is reported to be serious. The current condition of the other girl has not been reported.
