Boy Killed in Idyllwild when He Sleds Under Vehicle

IDLYLLWILD, CA (March 16, 2021) – On Sunday afternoon in Idyllwild, a boy was killed when the sled his was riding traveled under a vehicle that was moving. The March 14 incident occurred on Sylvan Way in the area of Pine Cove.

The time was roughly a little before 3:00 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said.

The boy had been sledding, reports say, and slid down a driveway and onto the road. The sled went under a vehicle–described as a Ford van–that was passing by.

The person who had been driving the vehicle–identified as a resident of Desert Hot Springs, 35 years old–stopped the vehicle. He helped transport the boy to a fire station.

The boy was transported by airlift to a hospital, but he died from his injuries before reaching the hospital. He was 7 years old.

According to people who witnessed the incident, the driver had been going at a slow speed when the boy slid under the van.

The identity of the boy’s family has not been reported.

The driver’s name has not been reported.
