Woman Identified as Victim Killed in Crash in Spring Valley
SPRING VALLEY, CA (February 16, 2021) – Isabella Calhoun-Chipress was identified as the victim who was killed in a crash in Spring Valley last Friday. Calhoun-Chipress’ vehicle was struck by a driver who was fleeing police in a suspected stolen vehicle.
The February 12 incident began when deputies with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department saw a vehicle traveling on Grand Avenue with its lights not illuminated. The deputies learned the vehicle was stolen, and tried to stop the driver.
The driver drove off at a fast speed, reports say, and went through a light that was red. The suspect driver is alleged to have hit two vehicles in the vicinity of Sweetwater Road and Jamacha Road.
Isabella Calhoun-Chipress had been traveling in one of the vehicles that was struck. She was killed in the incident. Calhoun-Chipress was 21 years old.
Two men and a child–aged 1 year–had been traveling in the other vehicle that was struck. Reports say the victims will likely survive the injuries they suffered. The victims have not been identified.
Authorities arrested two teenagers who had been traveling in the suspected stolen vehicle. They were identified as 16 years old and 17 years old.
The 17-year-old driver faces charges including gross vehicular manslaughter and possession of a stolen vehicle.
The passenger–16 years old–faces charges relating to a handgun that deputies found in the vehicle.
Investigators are continuing their work on the incident.
