Downtown Los Angeles Crash on 10 Freeway Injures CHP Officer, Tow Truck Driver
LOS ANGELES, CA (February 12, 2021) – On Thursday morning near the downtown area in Los Angeles, a multi-vehicle crash injured a California Highway Patrol Officer and a tow truck driver. The February 11 incident occurred on the 10 Freeway, close to the off-ramp for Normandie Avenue.
The time was a little before 10:00 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
A big rig and a car–which has not been described–collided, reports say, and the motorcycle officer and a tow truck driver responded to the crash site. They were helping at the scene when a vehicle–described as a Nissan Altima–smashed into the patrol motorcycle.
The motorcycle hit the tow truck driver and the officer. The force of the crash threw both people onto the ground.
Responders arrived and transported the officer to a hospital. The injuries he suffered were described as serious.
His current condition is not known. His identity has not been reported.
Responders also transported another patient to the hospital. The identity of the person has not been reported, including name, age, gender, and city of residence. The condition of the patient is not known.
Reports say that the person who had been driving the Nissan attempted to flee from the crash site, but at least one witness prevented the person from leaving.
Authorities arrested the Nissan’s driver on suspicion of DUI. The identity of the driver has not been reported.
No details are known regarding what caused the first crash. The big rig driver and the car’s driver have not been identified. It is not known if they were hurt.
