Sequential Crashes in Ramona Kill Three People, Injure One
RAMONA, CA (January 11, 2021) – Two crashes that occurred within minutes of each other in Ramona on Sunday killed three people and injured one person. The January 10 incidents both occurred in the late afternoon.
The first crash occurred close to where Wildcat Canyon Road and San Vicente Road intersect. The time was roughly a little after 5:00 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
A vehicle–described as a Chevrolet Camaro, white in color–had been traveling at a fast speed and heading east on San Vicente, reports say. In an area near Wildcat Canyon Road, the Chevrolet crossed the double yellow lines in the center of the road and went off the roadway’s edge on the north side.
The Chevrolet smashed into a number of trees and erupted in flames, according to the California Highway Patrol. The driver and a passenger were killed in the crash.
The identities of the two people, including their names, ages, gender, and cities of residence, have not been reported.
The second collision occurred on State Route 78. According to authorities, two motorcycles had been traveling on State Route 78 and heading west. In an area to the west of State Route 79, one of the riders traveled to the right side of the road and struck a large rock.
The impact threw the rider from the motorcycle. Right after the first motorcycle crashed, the second motorcycle went over the center lines and into the lanes of opposing traffic on State Route 78.
The rider went into the path of an oncoming vehicle, described as a Ford Focus, the California Highway Patrol said. The motorcycle and the car collided head on.
The rider was thrown from the bike. Responders arrived and transported one of the riders by airlift to Escondido’s Palomar Medical Center. The rider suffered injuries that were described as serious.
The other rider died at the crash site. Neither of the riders has been identified in reports.
The person who had been driving the Ford suffered injuries that were described as minor. The person was identified only as 71 years old. The name, gender, and city of residence of the person has not been reported.
Two people traveling as passengers in the car were not hurt in the crash, reports say. They have also not been identified.
Investigators are continuing work on the crashes. If anyone has information about the incidents, the person can contact the El Cajon area office of the California Highway Patrol. The number is 619-401-2000.
