Escondido Head-on Crash on Bear Valley Parkway and Mary Lane Involves DUI Suspect
ESCONDIDO, CA (December 18, 2020) – A head-on crash on Wednesday evening in Escondido led to the arrest of a driver suspected of DUI. The December 16 incident occurred where Mary Lane and Bear Valley Parkway intersect.
The time was roughly 7:35 p.m., according to Joshua Langdon. Langdon is a sergeant with Escondido Police.
The incident began when a car was seen swerving by some witnesses on I-15 northbound. The witnesses, reports say, commenced to follow the vehicle, described as a Honda Accord.
The vehicle left the highway at the exit for Via Rancho Parkway. Reports say the Honda veered into opposing traffic not longer after, and collided with another vehicle head on at the Bear Valley Parkway and Mary Lane area.
Another vehicle was also involved in the crash, but the manner in which this happened has not been described. The other vehicles involved in the collision were described as a Hyundai Santa Fe SUV, and a Nissan Sentra.
Reports say the people driving the two other vehicles were treated for injuries described as minor at the crash site. The identities of the drivers have not been reported.
Responders transported the driver suspect of DUI to Palomar Medical Center. He suffered injuries that were described as serious. His name, age, and city of residence have not been reported.
Investigators are continuing to work on the detail-gathering efforts required to understand the incident.
