Man Dies When Motorcycle Collides with Car on Ortega Highway
LAKE ELSINORE, CA (August 17, 2020) – Marcos Murrieta was killed on Friday near Lake Elsinore when his motorcycle collided with a car. The August 14 incident occurred on the Ortega Highway (Highway 74), near El Cariso Road and to the west of it..
The time was roughly 6:31 p.m., according to the Riverside County Coroner’s Office.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Murrieta had been westbound on the highway. In a curve on the road, he was reported to have been traveling at a fast speed.
The motorcycle Murrieta was riding crossed the center line and went into the lane of opposing traffic, reports say. A car–described as a Toyota Prius–was approaching.
The motorcycle and the car collided. Responders arrived and pronounced Murrieta deceased at the incident site. He was 36 years old, and a resident of Menifee.
The person who had been driving the car was identified as 40 years old. The driver’s name and gender have not been reported. According to reports, the person was not hurt in the crash.
Investigators are working to gather information regarding the incident.
