Driver Suspected of Intentionally Hitting Parked Vehicle in Santa Barbara is Arrested
SANTA BARBARA, CA (July 8, 2020) – On Friday evening, a driver is suspected of intentionally hitting a parked vehicle in Santa Barbara and leaving the scene. The July 3 incident occurred on De La Vina Street in the 400 block.
The time was roughly 6:40 p.m., according to Santa Barbara Police.
Reports say a person who witnessed the incident recounted to authorities that a vehicle–described as a Subaru, green in color–smashed into a vehicle that was parked repeatedly. The driver then fled the incident site.
Officers responded to the scene and while they were talking to the victim, the Subaru came back to the incident site. The driver is alleged to have driven toward the police officers with her engine revving.
Responding officers moved quickly to avoid being hit by the approaching car. The driver did not respond to officers’ commands to stop, reports say. The driver is alleged to have driven away on West Haley Street.
According to police, the driver began traveling in the wrong direction on West Gutierrez Street, which is a one-way road. Officers in two patrol vehicles stopped the suspect driver’s vehicle, and blocked the driver on State Street.
According to reports, the suspect driver fought with police during her arrest. Authorities identified the suspect driver as Alexi Kirchner, a resident of Santa Barbara 32 years old. Kirchner was arrested on suspicion of domestic dispute, DUI, assault with a deadly weapon, and hit and run.
Investigators are continuing their work on gathering information regarding the incident.
