Crash on Avalon Boulevard in South Los Angeles Injures Seven
LOS ANGELES, CA (July 1, 2020) – In the afternoon on Tuesday in South Los Angeles, a collision injured seven people. The June 30 incident occurred in the neighborhood of Florence, on Avalon Boulevard close to where it intersects with 77th Street.
The time was roughly a little after 1:00 p.m., the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
Reports say two vehicles–described as a Chevrolet TrailBlazer and a Mazda hatchback–collided. The manner in which the collision occurred has not been reported.
According to reports, Jaime Moore, who is Assistant Chief with the Los Angeles Fire Department, said responders worked to help victims who were stuck in the wreckage. The SUV was described as rolled over onto its side, and smashed against another vehicle–described as a box truck–which had been parked on the street.
According to Moore, the occupants of the SUV were five children–ranging in ages and including an infant–and a driver who is an adult. Two children suffered injuries that were considered critical. Three children were reported as not having suffered major injuries, though their condition is not known. All were taken to the hospital.
Both drivers were also transported to a hospital. The types of injuries each person suffered, and their current condition, is not known.
The identity of the driver of the SUV has not been reported, including name, age, gender, and city of residence.
The driver of the Mazda was identified only as a woman. Her name, age, and city of residence has not been reported.
Investigators are continuing their work of collecting details and information to understand the causes of the crash.
